MTN MoMo Partners with Thunes – Nigerians Can Now Receive Money from Abroad Instantly

If you have family in the UK, US, Canada, or even Saudi Arabia, this one is for you. MTN MoMo just signed a big deal with Thunes (a global cross-border payment company) so that any of MoMo’s 2.7 million Nigerian users can now receive money from abroad straight into their MoMo wallet – instantly.
No more waiting 2–3 days, no more crazy bank charges, no more “we’ll credit you tomorrow” stories. The money lands in your MoMo wallet the moment it’s sent. You can use it immediately to:
    • Buy airtime/data
    • Pay NEPA bill
    • Send to family
    • Pay for shopping online
    • Withdraw cash from any MoMo agent
    Countries that work right now:
    USA | UK | Canada | France | Australia | Saudi Arabia | Israel | South Africa
    (and more coming)
    How It Works (Dead Simple)

    1. Person abroad sends money through their bank/app (they choose “mobile wallet” → Nigeria → MTN MoMo)
    2. They enter your MoMo phone number
    3. You get SMS + wallet credit in seconds
    4. Done.

No account number. No SWIFT code. Just your normal MoMo number.

Why This Is a Big Deal for Nigeria

    • Nigeria received $20.9 billion in diaspora remittances in 2024 alone (World Bank).
    • Most of that money used to sit in banks for days or get eaten by fees.
    • Now it lands directly in people’s pockets, ready to spend or save.

Aik Boon Tan, Chief Network Officer at Thunes, said:
“This means Nigerians can finally get money from abroad instantly, securely, and without drama. More people join the real global economy. ”
Phrase Lubega, CEO of MoMo PSB, added:
“We promised financial inclusion. This is us keeping that promise – bringing the world’s money straight to your phone.”

    Quick Facts

    • MoMo PSB is fully licensed by CBN
    • Thunes network reaches 7 billion wallets worldwide
    • Already works with M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Orange Money, GCash, etc.

If you’ve been waiting for the day your brother in London can just “flash” you money the same way he flashes recharge card… that day is here.

Try it today – tell your people abroad to send a small test (even $10) and watch it land in seconds later.
Have you received your first international transfer on MoMo yet?

    P.S.
All my foreign people reading this – your Nigerian family just got a new, faster way to receive money. Use MTN MoMo.
    Thank me later
